Beatriz Huarte Melgar
Beatriz Huarte Melgar is an expert in International and European Law. She has a wide professional experience in Maritime and Fisheries Law, as well as in legal aspects related to companies which are going through an internationalisation process or involved in foreign trade activities.
She combined her Master’s Degree in Law (branch of business and economy) in the University of Vigo (Spain) with her Professional Degree in Music in the Music Conservatories of Vigo and Lugo. After that, Beatriz Huarte began her professional career in companies located in Germany and Ireland.
In 2010 she decided to specialise in European Law obtaining a Master's Degree in European Law, LL.M., at the Europa-Institut der Universität des Saarlandes, in Saarbrücken (Germany). Then, she started working on her Ph.D. thesis “Transit in Public International Law: Concept and challenges (A Study focused on the Transit of Goods in International Trade)” at the Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg (Germany), where she also worked as guest University lecturer and as junior researcher.
From 2010 to 2014 Beatriz combined the development of her dissertation with different positions related to legal consultancy in the fisheries, maritime and foreign trade sectors in Spanish companies. Additionally, she continued broadening her education with a Masters in The European Union at the European Institute of Bilbao, a Masters in Law Practice and a Masters in Family Law, the two latter at the Lawyers Training Centre of Madrid (Cefama), as well as a specialization course in Fisheries Management at the Spanish Maritime Institute (IME) and an International Master in Maritime and Port Administration at the International University Menéndez Pelayo.
Beatriz Huarte lived in Los Angeles for two months and held a position as a “visiting research fellow” at the University of California (UCLA). In 2014, Beatriz was awarded Doctor in Law (Dr. iur.) by the Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg and worked as a lawyer in the legal services of the Council of the European Union until February 2015. Due to this, when she returned to Spain she founded her own law and legal consultancy firm: Huarte International.
Thanks to her international experience, Beatriz Huarte is proficient in five languages: Portuguese, Italian, French, English and German, possessing a perfect command of the last two, besides her native languages, Spanish and Galician.
Until now, Beatriz Huarte has written several renowned publications for different publishers and scientific legal journals. In addition, she has written several papers and researched in International Law and has on-going future projects lined up in her agenda.
