Approval of the new EU Ports Services Regulation

Last week the European Parliament approved the new Ports Services Regulation for the European Union (EU), which aims to improve and clarify the financing of ports taking into account the conditions of workers.

The International Dockworkers Council (IDC) have shown “satisfaction” for approval; however, they believe that the text should have been more precise in the defense of working conditions. For their part, the European Seaports Organization (ESPO) have also expressed satisfaction with the adoption of the Regulation; nonetheless, they regret that Brussels has not gone further in the matter of tariff liberalization.
