European Commission Report on the EU fisheries control system

After five years of study, the European Commission has concluded that the Fisheries Control Regulation, which ensures compliance with the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), is manifestly improvable, especially with regard to the subject of the landing obligation.

The European Commission report indicates that there is a lack of flexibility in some provisions on data collection and exchange on ships of less than 12 meters in length. The report also expresses concern about the traceability of fishery products and the current points system for serious infringements.
