Outlook for 2017 on fishing quotas

The European Commission has proposed for 2017 a cut of 35.9% in fishing quotas for hake in the waters of the Iberian Peninsula (Cantabria, Galicia and Gulf of Cadiz) and a 2.8% increase in catches of the same species in northern waters. However, the sector understands that there is still room to improve fishing quotas for next year.

On the other hand, the European Commission wants to reduce by 11.9% catches of monkfish in the waters of southern, central and western Gulf of Biscay and has included horse mackerel as a species that has reached sustainability in Iberian waters.
