The Committee on Fisheries of the European Parliament has drafted a resolution that claims the standardization of controls and penalties in fisheries in all EU Member States. In this respect, based on the report of Isabelle Thomas, it has been observed that the same offense in some EU Member States is processed via the Administrative Law and in other EU Member States by means of Criminal Law. This results in an uneven application of European law.
Likewise, the following measures have also been proposed: the creation of specialized judges in maritime affairs in each EU Member State; to extend the mandate of the European Fisheries Control Agency in coordination with the Coast Guard; and the creation of an electronic register to receive and centralizing catch certificates issued by the EU Member States and third countries.
