The World Trade Organization (WTO) decides today Wednesday, at the close of the XI Ministerial Conference, whether it prohibits fishing subsidies or not. Among the proposals submitted, the European Union is committed to maintaining aid to fight illegal fishing and to improve working conditions. In this regard, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, Guyana, Suriname and Argentina signed a document calling for the prohibition of aid to finance illegal fishing.
Due to the existing divergences, there are difficulties in reaching an agreement. In this sense, it is important to emphasize that this agreement should also include China, since it is one of the countries most marked by the overexploitation of fisheries. The question is whether China will accept restrictions.
